Heritage Home Restoration

Project Overview

This 1920s Queenslander in Ipswich required a restoration approach that respected the building's architectural significance while updating the interior to contemporary living standards. The scope included all original VJ wall linings, ornate pressed-metal cornices, timber fretwork, and tongue-and-groove ceilings. Our team hand-sanded all original timber elements to remove decades of accumulated finish without damaging profiles, repaired damaged plaster sections using traditional methods, and selected a warm, contemporary palette that complemented the home's period character. All coatings were breathable, low-sheen finishes specifically chosen to allow the heritage timber and plaster substrates to regulate moisture naturally — a critical consideration in Queensland's humid climate — preserving both the aesthetic and structural integrity of this important local property.
